Or like you suggested Solid colours would speak volumes. The layout looks good and talks to kids. "art" and "whale" shadows and platforms and adding more to the layout I believe would only make it worse. Actually I would take out the shadows, make the background solid. It's an ad for toys and kids, you can afford to have some surrealism to it :0) neat. The layout looks good and talks to kids.
