  1. I like the ad, btw… why didn’t you post the new ahli bank crappy ass logo by intermarkets?

  2. "P"

The new Ahli Bank crappy ass logo is not by Intermarkets MOEY
    I think it’s by Bates Pangulf…

  3. Very interesting but poor execution.

  4. Kre8tive

Not bad for a recruitment ad after all.

  5. kelly

good concept and good execution-well done.

  6. mADman

reminds me of the one shows :-) good job guys, hope you get great resumes out of this ad!

  7. kelly

Pencil team managed “to walk the Vampire line” perfectly without producing something disgusting (blood drops, etc…)

  8. true Kelly

  9. http://www.ads2blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/recruitment-ad-1-b.jpg

If you enlarge the layout you will see the pencils are of very low quality and look airbrushed which is a very 80s look. If they were real pencils instead of airbrushed looking ones I think the execution would have been better.

  10. oh just noticed another issue… fax us your cv? what is a fax? *cough cough 2008 cough cough*

    ;)

  11. Gilbert Semillano

Do you have a problem with Pencil, Mark?

  12. Gilbert Semillano

Oh btw Mark, a fax machine is a heavy device that when hit on the head would cause great damage to the brain:-)

  13. Kre8tive

    LOL.

  14. mADman

Hahahaaaah!!!! OUCH!! >that would really hurt being hit by a fax machine<

  15. Gilbert you think I have a problem with Pencil because I complimented the idea but criticized the execution?

I think my criticism was well founded and I even took the step of explaining what I thought was wrong with the execution. You could disagree with me and tell me that you think I am wrong and that the execution is great but to respond by hinting out that I have some sort of hidden agenda against Pencil is absurd specially that we know each other.

Even my fax comment was a good point.

  16. Impartial

Yet another nice recruitment ad using pencils!

  17. Tricky

we need you “oh Creative virgin” to suck your blood and make you work all night……..

  18. Fax, email… just a way of communication. I think fax works better while we suffer from slow internet nowadays?
fax pencil, if they like you, they will call you, you pass by with your resume & portfolio, they want you. you’re hired, end of discussion eh?

  19. If we put aside the fact that we are wayyy past the age of fax machines, think of it like this at least…

No one has a fax machine at home so people will either have to fax their cv from their current work (not a smart idea) or find a place that has a fax machine to send from. Basically not very practical.

Which is more practical? Fax or Email? duh..

I think the problem here is that everyone (including me) picked on Gilbert in his last recruitment ad for the fact that he used his own personal email address in it. So not to go through all that again he probably decided to place a fax number.

For everyones information (not just Gilbert), if you guys want email and hosting and domain for really cheap just go to http://www.dreamhost.com.

  20. NOMAD

Though execution can be improved..this is still in totality a great visual communication.

Concerning the “call to action” details, Mark, think of it like this as well…this is the second recruitment ad from Pencil. In the first 1, they went for an email as their resume drop-box. With this ad they opted for a facsimile. The ad clearly states what they crave for & it’s “creative blood”, U think a creative person won’t find his way in getting his resume through as a response to this agency? If the applicant isn’t resourceful enough to overlook the email from the first ad done by this creative agency then he doesn’t belong & fails the first test of creativity. Allow me to reiterate ” AD BY A CREATIVE FOR THE CREATIVES” and this agency surely knows what they want!

Good job Pencil! An added eye for details will surely add extra bite!

  21. just me

Hmmm…. what do i see here? more pencils?

  22. Nomad: If I understood correctly what you are saying is that a “true creative” would flip through hundreds of old newspapers randomly to see if Pencil released an ad previously that did include their email and if they did then the “true creative” could email them using that email? Come on, thats not only the dumbest thing I have ever read here but it absolutely lacks any any common sense at all.

  23. NOMAD

No Mark that is not my point. If you understand what I’m saying, perusal of oldpapers is not the answer. A job hunter of creative mind knows how to shortlist creative ads & creative agencies. It’s not that difficult particularly here in Kuwait. If you’re creative, you’d understand my point. But I can see clearly that my discipline is wayyy beyond your ability to comprehend…tsk, tsk! what a pity! As a great creator once claimed, “..creative minds will always find violent opposition from mediocre minds!”

  24. mADman

Wait I know the guy who said that…. was it George Bush?!? lol.

  25. I was referring to this comment which was made by you:

“If the applicant isn’t resourceful enough to overlook the email from the first ad done by this creative agency then he doesn’t belong & fails the first test of creativity.”

So as I said earlier, no one uses fax anymore and email is more practical. If you still believe fax is more popular then I am open to further discussions on this subject Mr Creative Mind.

  26. I think I have a fax somewhere .. stopped using it back in 2001 or something.

  27. Joe

Another good one pencil. BTW, agree with Mark, fax is way outdated. It only takes 2 minutes to create a gmail account. I would have created one integrated with the ad (thirstforblood@gmail.com or something..). Nevertheless, good idea guys - that’s what counts!

  28. Gilbert Semillano

Thanks, Joe! I actually made an email with that, but then again I thought why not the fax? Since we’re looking for creative heads and they could start being creative with the facsimile:-)

  29. Joe

He who wants you knows where to find you..

  30. If you are seeking a creative method of delivering a CV, how about telex or navigation coordinates.

  31. mADman

How you gonna use a navigation coordinates, KTK? Why not attach your cv on a pigeon and send it?

  32. 1- where and when did this ad get published? if ever.

2- what do you think of our self promotion ad which is published in the Yellow pages … i cant help but think…it looks familiar.

  33. I think I know what Louai is talking about. I just saw their calendar and one of the visuals uses pencils as fangs of the bear.

    http://www.unex-t.com/bear.jpg

  34. waaaaaaaaaaaaaal…. all of this discussion about a fax machine!
    jesus

  35. Mark. the execution of the bear ad you posted, sucks monkey balls

  36. Jayson

Congrats! to Gilbert Semillano…How is Kre8tive

  37. Kre8tive

    Disgusting….

  38. mADman

Similar with the use of the pencils as fangs, but Pencil is Pencil so I think this makes it fit more than the bear which is too weak and forced IMHO.

  39. mADman:
I was going to suggestion pigeons .. but then my comment would sound sarcastic. The point of the discussion was ‘creative’ methods to deliver the c.v. .. I think gps is up there.

  40. mADman

KTK, pigeons would be more exciting than gps, or let the bird use it to send the cv? lol

  41. SoupDragon

Well… nevertheless, the original creator of the idea is PARAGON, so let’s not give credit to the followers heh? Never mind if the execution “might” be better. Am i missing the idea or a Creative agency i supposed to be creative?? This is a pure copycat thing. Worldwide agencies has sued each other for a lot less….

  42. mmm, lame?

  43. falcon > pigeon

  44. 2 pigeons > falcon

  45. mADman

    falcon ÷ pigeons

  46. mADman

    = good meal? (with Tabasco)

  47. Jayson

    Kre8tive, How is Gilbert Semillano?

  48. Jayson

Gilbert’s work is just one style

  49. Jayson, what about yours?

  50. adchemist

Jayson, Gilbert has Two devil teeths and a bloody Tongue and he was in Guantanamo Jail for Killing some of his mates!!! Horror he is lol…

Sorry Kre8tive, I answer behalf of you!

  51. adchemist

    ….LOL…”laughing out louai”

    Happy V’day guys:)

  52. kre8tive

damn U Adchemist for stealing my line!! >-(
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! (gotta get me some flavored rubber 2nite)

  53. LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  54. imliy

    we have to discuss logically….
The concept is too weak and it’s nothing….
    Let’s innovate and inspire ….
    Sorry guys….

  55. I saw a bug somewhere

  56. it takes one to know one :)

  57. WOW! I can’t believe the comments here people! from a simple review to a semi personal war! LOL.. funny! Well, It’s cool but It could be enhanced to show the idea in a more clear way.

  58. hey louai

i think you should be careful who you accuse of plagiarizing.
some of the content of you very own site could be classified as ‘plagiarized’

plagiarism is a very fine line, sure you’ll find copy cats, but believe me, it can be coincidental. anyway who are you to accuse, are you the self-elected devil’s advocate of the industry. what authority do you have? have you a particular axe to grind? there are a lot of very creative thinkers out there, you should focus on them, not making issues out of your own assumptions.

so instead of standing on your soap box, why don’t you produce some really creative work yourself, lets all see it. even better, showcase work with creative prowess, there’s some really fine work produced in this region, showcase it instead of bleating, or are you all talk and no bottle?

furthermore, regarding the pencil teeth ad for recruitment, i consider it more creative use of the idea than the bear piece.
surely that’s the point, is there a big idea, not has it been ripped-off.

please re-consider your point of view and i submitted these words in the spirit of the idea, not the execution.

a seasoned creative ex london & johannesburg, now roasting in middle east culture.

  59. mADman

    ey… nice one AK, Ageed!

  60. AbdulKareem…hmmm did you judge the KAAA awards?

  61. Dear AbdullKareem, thank you for your concern…
I am NOT accusing anyone of anything.
I am just posting facts with all the supporting materials (examples, names, dates, definitions, etc.) and FYI some of these posts are already available in other international well known and respected blogs so why the fuss about bloganubis
I think since you are coming from London and Johannesburg then perhaps you should take on the task of Showcasing the Good work which is coming out of this region (practicing what you are preaching) while I stick to what I am doing by challenging the regions’ creative’s to create ;)

  62. kre8tive

“while I stick to what I am doing by challenging the regions’ creative’s to create” wow! such strong words Louai, and how do you do that? By making ANUBIS, ask their ads’ publications and calling names? Dayumn! Mr. Kareem, welcome to A2B btw…. :-)
