Obviously the ads of the 3rd telecom operator in Kuwait… not a great first impression i have to say. What’s with the colors? They are exactly the colors of Nokia Siemens Networks.

Moey as a Leo Burnett – Kuwait art director your answer to all the above criticism about your ad is at least its colorful? Is that how you sold it to the client.. “look its got pretty colors!” ?

Moey, Honestly the ads are so flat. They looked like snaps for a photo shop, or a page feature in Friendster :-) The idea of using human elements were done and abused, it just might give others an impression that you are limited in terms of ideas and art direction, Now, the colors have ideas in them but then waisted and not explored because of you settling into the “first thought”. You were given a great chance here to show a great idea, but fell short. Next time, give it a deeper thought, take some time and squeeze those brains out a little bit. (You’ll thank me for that :-))

Mark, they’re not my work. I didn’t approve them neither work on this teaser.
I think they are colorful and not dull under one dark color scheme like other (network)’s.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Advertising is subjective and the beauty of it is you interpret things your way. I’m not surprised at these types of comments, since people in the ad industry in Kuwait unfortunately seem to adopt the approach of mocking others work as opposed to praising it or seeing the merit in it.
Considering the restrictions we were under and the direction we received from client (which are things the market never know), I think we delivered a good campaign.
There is always room for improvement and that is the route we will follow.
Best of luck!

Moey just because you like the ads and other people don’t it doesn’t mean there is a problem with the whole ad industry in Kuwait. It just means that you have different taste.
Everyone is in the same ball game and we all have restrictions from the client but that should never be an excuse, you are in the end as good as your last work.
As a word of friendly advice though, you work in Leo Burnett Kuwait who created the above campaign so what you say represents a person from that agency. You can’t distance yourself from it by saying “Mark, they’re not my work. I didn’t approve them neither work on this teaser.”
You also can’t defend a campaign by saying the colors are nice, and that you had restrictions from the client and you “think” you delivered a good campaign (not a great campaign just good). Thats as if Leo Burnett is saying we know it sucks but its what the client wanted. I am not too sure the client or Leo would want you to say that.

They don’t suck, they’re cool and better than other work I saw for other telecommunications Mark.
I like them, but I said what I said so no one attacks me, because some are just dying to do so.
Just a clarification. I’m always proud of what we have here at Leo Burnett :)

Sinister
Mark,
Your comments are void of logic, prove you’re a strategic imbecile and really paint you out to be the buffoon I’ve heard you are.
I think anyone with a pair of eyes can tell that this campaign is average to say the least, the tragedy is that you feel like you have to post 2 replies defecating on a junior in an attempt to make yourself feel better about the regular branded dumps you take.
I would’ve though CD’s have better things to do…
Play nice with the young Mark.

Sinister you seem to have something personal against me because you’ve taken my replies and interpreted them in a very negative way.
My posts here were targeted at Moey because he IS a Junior. I don’t know how long you’ve been visiting ads2blog but there is somewhat of a small community here and Moey is part of this community. Because he is a junior I posted what I posted and now the next time he posts under a Leo Burnett advert he is going to think twice about what he writes because now he knows he isn’t in university anymore but in the real world representing a leading agency.
There are a lot of things we usually take for granted and expect other people to already know but in truth a lot don’t. So you can say what you want and if you have a problem with what I wrote in all honesty its the least of my concern.
But I do find it interesting that your first post on this blog is an attack against me. I guess I must have pissed you off in some way in the real world…

Mark, I do not represent the agency. I do not have the right to represent a whole agency, I said what I think about the ads.
Fair enough, thanks for the advice.

I wonder how you never comment/post about JWT here… how come zain ads never pop-up here!.. just a thought!
Sep 13th, 2008
Mark
I don’t comment on JWT stuff here because this site is where other people are supposed to comment on our own work. Its lame for an agency or person to comment on their own work. What kind of comment would I leave “wow I love this” or “This will win gold at the sumo awards for sure!” I would rather sit back and read the comments, good or bad and maybe butt in if there is something that needs explaining.
About you not representing the agency you work in I doubt thats true. I think you do represent the agency you work in. For example, if you posted above that you hated this KTC campaign and your boss found out do you think she will:
a) compliment you on your honesty
b) get you a happy meal
c) tell you not to do this again and explain to you how you represent the agency
You’re part of a team now…

I’d rather give my personal opinion to my boss which I already did. I was here for the feedback, I usually leave comments on anything I feel like leaving a comment on. Anyways Mark, thanks for the tips I suppose?

What The Maaan
hmmm, so if ur a creative director for 1 or 2 months u can pretend u know it all ? Hello ur a creative director in kuwait not new york.. plus what kind of agency has 2 or 3 creative directors while they barley have 2 or 3 major accounts (not even the full accounts) ?? common give me a break, and wake up.
With all due respect and honesty, you actually think yourself can handle lebanon’s branch as a CD ? or even Saudi ? i wont even go close to NY or UK haha. take a break on the kid, ur a junior urself so when u tag urself along with a title as a CD that doesn’t mean u know it all by now.
for gods sake, Last year was ur first lynxx and u think you became einstien ? what will happen when u get the 2 or 3 cannes ?(inshalah) will u start putting people down and lecturing them how your way is the right way ? and everyone else is mistaken? all opinions have to be under ur authorization ? common man, WAKE UP !! **real world calling mark** helloo**
let the juniors explore, do mistakes, become tactical, become promotional, thematic even, let him find his way and understand what puts us where we are today.
If your intention is to let Moey think twice before he posts in a blog, u might as well go lecture in a high school to teach kids how to behave in public places, and what is socially right and not.
Moey has an opinion, the guy has a brain, not cause he is a junior u look down on him…
Yeah and about JWT’s work, re-check ur comments MARK, and see how defensive you get. this blog turned into a war cause of how everyone is defensive, and forces his opinion onto others. People have taste, being negative wont make things any better, it will just make it worse..
Mark, Think Twice..

I respect Mark’s opinion still… habibi wallah!

kre8tive you think the guy has a point? Did his comment seem to you like a rationally thought out argument or an emotional vent? He sounds like a person who wanted my job and didn’t get it or someone who applied to our agency and got turned away…

NeverMind
This really is confusing… especially that some of the guys criticizing STC’s campaign work with JWT and work on the Zain account…
Guys, dunno where u’ve been before or what type of markets u were active in… but to me, creativity and effectiveness of a campaign is measured only by research and not by a subjective opinion or a personal judgment. What looks good for you might never achieve the required objectives. The campaign is considered successful only after doing the required scientific research measurements. You can’t just brag abt it being good or not… especially coming from JWT… with all due respect.
Sep 18th, 2008
NeverMind
Oh… one more thing.. rule number 1 in advertising, never create ads to win awards, create ads to reach ur client’s objectives…
Obviously in STC’s case the objective is to create awareness.. and i believe the campaign did achieve that….
cheers

STC’s teaser and revealer campaign was quite a hit… although we can comment on the creativity part, let’s not forget that the colors (white and the rest of the flashy colors) did attract many eyes on the road one early morning. So I guess that they did reach in a way their target, they got people disputing on a blog :p
Should we remember Zain’s campaign which did overload the streets and was huge but failed to reveal properly. On the reveal date, most of the billboards/mupis still had the teaser ads on.
So… would you go buy a Viva line now?? Personally, I am still loyal to Wataniya (since day 1)…
