Thank you all for coming; I hope everyone had a good time.
Please come forward with ideas and suggestions for future IAA events.
One of the first suggestions brought forward was an interagency IAA basketball tournament…what do you think?

Basketball? What a brilliant idea! Lol.

KRE8TIVE.. ur so predictive with ur answers dude :).. at least someone is suggesting something around here.. Anyhow, since "spike it" is handling the entertainment/sports part every year, why don't we go for advertising seminars.. i mean there are a lots of interesting issues exposed in Dubai lounges such as modern advertising, new consumer age, etc.. may be we can drag some of them in here for debate and discussion..

What The Maaan
LOUAI, what we need in kuwait is more than Entertainment, and Ghabqa's we need step ahead, we need collaboration between agencies, we need to find a way to raise the standard of the advertising industry .. not a basketball tournament (that has nothing to do with the core subject) if i may question what have the iAA gave to the advertising agency ? any legislative rules made ? any meeting with ministry of information ? any work that adds to our day to day work ?

What The Maaan
Hey,
thought of sharing a very important part to all of this .. i logged onto the main IAA website, and took a look at their mission. check this out :
So, how do we do this?
There are three themes to our mission:
* The International Advertising Association is committed to fight unwarranted regulation on behalf of all those engaged in responsible commercial speech and to act as an advocate for freedom of choice for individuals across all consumer and business markets
* The IAA champions advertising as a force for growth in all free market societies. Advertising revenues ensure an independent, pluralistic, affordable media with competing channels of information for consumers, which ensure that individuals have choices
* The IAA is uniquely positioned to intercept emerging industry trends before they become obvious, and to provide its members with an international, multi-industry forum for the global exchange of knowledge, best practices, professional development, intelligence, experience and ideas.
Taken together our three mission themes combine naturally to define the benefits valued by the IAA's 3 separate constituencies:
* Corporate sustaining members
* Individual members
* Chapters.
—–
now the question here; what happens if the IAA chapter doesn't fulfill the above criteria ?

lets put Kre8iffffff aside as this is an important discussion….
To be honest the Basketball tournament suggestion was made during the IAA Ramadan Ghabka by a gentleman from the agency side…I think it is a good idea but I posted this here to see how many of you out there share the enthusiasm for this idea (your right to chose).
As for what the IAA has done (in my short tenor as a board member) apart from the Ghabka might not much but at least it is a step forward from what we had since 1996:
1- Already increased the membership base.
2- Already held the ACT (Advertising Community Together) exhibition; for those who don’t know what it is let me explain – it is a roaming exhibition held in Cannes (Lions) and then Dubai (Lynx) and for the first time ever in Kuwait of the most creative work done for PSA (Public Service Announcements).
3- Already issued the new plastic membership cards along with benefits of discounts (same as Beta Plus)
4- Moved the KAAA sponsorship from IAA UAE to the Kuwait chapter; after all it is an event originating and held in Kuwait.
5- We also distributed the IAA worldwide directory (with the local chapter names and data).
6- We have secured and distributed user names and passwords (to members) which enables them to access the world’s largest creative archive, plus the various case studies, research, etc.
7- We also sent out the IAA electronic newsletter to members.
8- We also gave out Free subscriptions for Communicate (a leading advertising magazine associated with Ad age).
9- We have distributed Idea Management access codes (it is the blue plastic card) which enables the user to access 15 free tips from Ralph Langust (the author of how to catch the big idea); we have concluded negotiations with them and await sponsors to afford bringing them to Kuwait (IAA is a non-profit organization)
If you want the IAA local chapter to do more…then perhaps you should become members in order to have your voice heard and to shape the industry to what YOU want it to become. It is very easy to sit outside the room and critique what is going on in the meeting room ;)

What The Maaan
with all due respect, all that you have mentioned are to be a given by default, still there isn't anything u mentioned that changed or helps in changing the industry. it seems that the IAA has no power or strength to change and make rules. what you have mentioned is the benefit for members, but what have you done to the industry ?? as for the memberships how are we to know where to find the IAA ? do u even have a website ? for gods sake ur all about advertising and no one knows where ur located ? in my honest opinion i think u might start off with more workshops.. more seminars (as mentioned above) more tutorials.. and yeah put me in the meeting room, and see if what im saying is just talk .. its not just "lets do something" there is Content that has to be filled.. and worked on..
looking forward for a true association that benefits the industry and not the members only ..

kre8tive
It's nice to hear those words if it is to be implemented for the benefit of all, members of the association, the clients, media and the industry. BUT how would we believe if this mission is true and genuine if it's coming from a person who is in most of the peoples' opinion is FULL of himself, blabbers a lot, bashes creatives, and tries to be someone not worthy and not practices what he preaches?
Sep 27th, 2008

and yet Kre8tive…i was elected a board member so it seems that not everyone is buying the lies you are spreading about me ;)

kre8tive
I need not tell lies Louai, in fact it is you who is the big fat liar here. I am no the one who blabbers much about myself here, but you:-) So have some decency and respect for the people who elected and out you in that position, good luck anyways on your basketballs, oh what about try something like double-dutch tournament? Lol.

Louai Alasfahani
I know Kre8ifff has personal issues; but he should not take out his frustrations on the entire IAA Kuwait chapter just because he is jealous from me ;) what is also funny is that he says things about me insinuating that we know each other!!! Truth is I don’t know this guy Really Never met or heard of him.
Sep 27th, 2008
kre8tive
Sorry Louai, Nothing personal. It's just that I couldn't believe how come a clown like you would be trusted by a respected group to handle such important tasks for the benefit of a lot of professionals in the industry. Good luck on your double-dutch tourney, mate ;-)
Sep 27th, 2008
Louai Alasfahani
Kre8ifff says it is nothing personal; yet he continues to call me names :)) and keeps on insisting that I’m not fit to be part of the industry!!! (Again as if he knows me). Well if he is really better than me then why does he have to hide behind a nick name? Let him stand up and be recognized ;) or forever keep his peace.
Sep 27th, 2008
What The Maaan
hahaha be recognized ?! dude we are not in a highshool, or an elementry "oh he is calling me names .. waaa!". wake up man !
its not just him, its all of the industry questioning ! what are you doing for us ? lets be fair and not just direct the questioning to you, YET to the IAA kuwait chapter. what you have mentioned earlier did nothing to raise a bar, help a client, push media rules, or anything of that sort .. why would someone pay 100kd for a membership and he isn't getting anything out of it ? except a plastic card with personal privileges .. dude that card u can get it from NBK, GBK, CBK .. they call them reward cards ..
i think i know what is truly happening.. IAA is a powerful entity, it can legislate and criticize to a certain extent. BUT, the board all in all are weak ! they dont have a back bone, lets be blunt. in kuwait without a wasta ur nothing .. and i doubt anyone from the board has anything in the government to help him push for better legislations .. until someone with a backbone holds a position in that "sleeping Iaa" don expect seeing something more than discounts and t-shirts for a tournament…
If you try to question my recognition by asking me to reveal myself.. u are mistaken, cause i wont do it on a blog. if you want .. let the IAA rent a place, let all the members sit and discuss openly, and i assure you, then ill be holding the mic for every other question .. i worked in organizations and i know how things work, so .. do an open forum for all the creatives/ clientservicing / agencies .. to attend, speak openly.. discuss without looking down on people, and then offer them the memberships (you gotta make money).
i don't know you, i dont want to know you, and i don't care to know you … all i care about is the future of my career and industry, comparing my self with an agency outside Kuwait makes u feel like crap !! i know ull blame the client .. but still ! they have an entity / organization that stands up for them ..
least thing u can do, compare yourself between IAA Lebanon chapter, and the Kuwaiti Chapter .. and see whats the difference between them..

What the mann :)) you really are as ignoratnt as you sound. and you are so afraid so that means you can only be a small fish in a small pond.
Sep 28th, 2008
What The Maaan
and you call your self responsible for the good of this industry..
i challenge you on an open podium, and we will see who is ignorant.. i understand truth hurts, which leaves you speechless at first (first comment) and then .. you need to find a way to let out some frustration.. (second comment) but yet i wonder .. do u live in a bubble ? or maybe in a land called La La ?
so who on this forum, is a member of the IAA ? the sleeping kuwaiti chapter entity.
So with all honesty loai, i left this question to the end of the comment so you would answer it and not run away from it..

And I need u to find one place where the agencies can meet like a club with discounted membership, etc

What kind of competitions now, Louai? What about your Basketball and Double-Dutch tourneys? On a serious note; when a competition like what "new" has said, transparency in judging is very important. Hope IAA is a different kind :-))

i don not know but we need some thing like this cause working in ku block the human
Mind and make you think old and very traditional
yes we need movement life and open
Discussions to benefit from each other and no need to mix between work and social
activities , and if I can join the board to do what iam saying I will but as per my name I am new
Oct 9th, 2008
Louai Alasfahani
New…everyone who joins the IAA are showing that they care about the industry and that they want to be a part of the solution; those who don’t want to join simply want to remain a part of the problem and throw comments and make jokes…because their career is a joke. [m]
The interagency basket ball tournament was suggested by a non IAA member and despite this fact we took his suggestion and tracked the response from different industry members; Ironically this suggestion was shot down on the same blog that advertises an interagency beach volleyball tournament!!! Which is also a social gathering for the industry members (similar to the IAA Ghabka) with only one difference that so far all of the IAA initiatives are FREE to all members and nonmembers alike ;)

Louai, I'm sorry about the moderation but there were some advertising material in your comment.
Oct 11th, 2008
Louai Alasfahani
you could have moderated the "advertising material" and left the rest of it…it was a long post and not all "advertising: ;) plus the "advertising" your reffered to is stating facts about the current debate of the IAA role in Kuwiat and an open Free invitation for an industry related event by the IAA so i dont see a real reason for moderation….but that is just my opinion and thanks to you no one will have the other side of the story to make up their own mind.
NB. why didnt you mention the source of your latest two posts? oh i see you dont want to advertise the source!!!!
